A synthetic pyrethroid used as an insecticide and anti-parasitic medication. It is the treatment of choice for scabies and pediculosis (head lice). It works by disrupting the sodium ion channels of the parasite's nerve cell membranes, causing delayed repolarization and subsequent paralysis and death of the parasite.
